2006 NPS Management Policies finalized
The final edition of the National Park Service's 2006 Management Policies have been released, culminating an extensive and intense public and internal review process. The NPS received more than 45,000 comments during the review period. ANPR members contributed more than 60 pages of comments during that period. The policies state that conservation and enjoyment are both important on park lands, but when in conflict, conservation remains predominant. Here is the official

Comments to the Draft 2006 NPS Management Policies
ANPR members submitted these consolidated comments in mid-February regarding the draft Management Policies.
Testimony on the Hill Several ANPR members accepted an invitation to give testimony May 10 before the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks. They traveled to Washington, D.C., on their own time and at their own expense. Posted 5/13/05.

Directors discusses change in leadership, continued commitment to park advocacy
role
The Board of Directors has mailed a letter June 28, 2004, to its members to address the recent resignation of its president and the appointment of a successor. In addition, Lee Werst, the Association's new president, offers a statement about the recent events and promises to continue advocating for parks, resources and employees of the National Park Service.

Mabery steps down as ANPR president
ANPR's president of the past two-plus years issued this statement June 9, 2004, to the ANPR Board of Directors: "As of this date I have resigned as president of ANPR and resigned from the board of directors. The time that we have spent together has been wonderful. Thank you."

Letters to U.S. Parole Commission and U.S. Attorney General
ANPR has sent two letters -- one June 11, 2005, to U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and one Aug. 26, 2005, to the U.S. Parole Commission -- strongly protesting the proposed release of Veronza Bowers, who was convicted and sentenced in San Francisco Federal District Court to a life term in prison for the murder of Ranger Ken Patrick in 1973.
Press Conference about Park Funding ANPR's Executive Director, Jeff McFarland, participated in a press conference March 17, 2004, with the Coalition of Concerned National Park Retirees and the Campaign to Protect America's Lands. Remarks focused on the administration's proposed budget of inadequate funding levels for the National Park Service.
